On July 7, two members of the New Orleans Fire Department were killed in a traffic accident around 1:45 a.m. in Long Beach, Mississippi. The Harrison County Coroner identified the deceased victims as a 28-year-old New Orleans firefighter from Chalmette and another 27-year-old New Orleans firefighter from Metairie.
The coroner reported that the 28-year-old firefighter was driving westbound in a pickup truck that ran off Highway 90 in Long Beach at a high speed and struck a tree on the median. The other 27-year-old firefighter was riding as a passenger. Neither was wearing a seatbelt, and both firefighters died at the scene. Two other passengers in the truck were hospitalized.
