Former Employee Accuses ADT Home Security of Racial Discrimination

Last month, a former African American employee of ADT Security Services filed suit in New Orleans federal court against the home security company claiming racial discrimination. The basis of her lawsuit is that ADT did not give her the same number of sales leads that it gave white sales representatives.

The woman was a sales representative at ADT beginning in 2002.  According to the complaint, in May 2009, ADT hired three white sales representatives who received three to five sales appointments per day from ADT. By comparison, the plaintiff claims she only received two to three sales appointments per week from ADT.

She complained to her supervisor about the discrimination and filed a written complaint with ADT in August 2009. In November 2009, ADT fired her for violating company policy. She alleges ADT fired her in retaliation for her complaints about the racial discrimination.

Her complaint asks the court to stop ADT from its unlawful practices and award her back pay, interest, bonuses, pension, front pay, compensatory damages, emotional distress, embarrassment, and humiliation, among other damages.
