Two Teenage Girls Lose their Life in Car Crash

A tragedy occurred last Saturday night when two teenage girls lost their lives in a car accident in Natchitoches Parish. As reported at ktbs.com, the fatal car crash occurred on Hampton Road at approximately 6 p.m. Three teenage girls were in a Ford Escape when the driver lost control and veered off the road.

The SUV went off the riverbank and landed on its roof in the Cane River. The 16-year-old driver and a 15-year-old passenger died at the scene. Another 15-year-old passenger suffered injuries, and emergency responders rushed her to a nearby hospital. Authorities are still investigating the car crash. They do not know if alcohol was a factor in the wreck.

One of the teenage victims was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. Ironically, the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission just released a report saying that 3 out of 4 drivers and front-seat passengers wear seatbelts in the state. The Commission conducted the study this past June and July and found that just over 77 percent of drivers and passengers used their seatbelts.

The data marks the highest rate of seatbelt use in Louisiana since 2005. While seatbelts cannot guarantee your safety in a car accident, they increase your chances of survival.
