Worker Killed on Mississippi River Bridge

On March 25, a Louisiana Motorist Assistance Patrol employee was killed by an 18-wheeler on the Mississippi River Bridge.

Jim Gilmer, the employee killed, was identified after crash. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development stated that Gilmer had been called out to the bridge to remove road debris when he was struck and killed by the semi.

According to the police report, Gilmer was standing in front of his work truck when the 18-wheeler rear-ended his vehicle. The crash caused Gilmer’s truck to strike him, killing him instantly. The truck driver, Davie Coussore, was charged with careless operation of a vehicle, but an investigation is still ongoing.
